For more than 40 years, the annual Boys Basketball Tournament, hosted by the City of Twentynine Palms Recreation Dept., has drawn hundreds of competitive youngsters from all over California, Nevada, and Arizona, during the last weekend of March. A "Mural-in-a-Day" project was created to celebrate the 44th tournament in 2002. Created by Los Angeles artist Art Mortimer, the mural was painted by a team of 21 local artists in one day on the 22-foot by 44-foot wall.
